Client Testimonials

My first encounter with Robert Charlemagne was back in the early 1990s at a salsa night in a little venue called the Reingold. I think at that time he used to teach alongside Nelson Batista.
When I first danced with Robert it was easy to tell that he was a jazz dancer as his style was very funky jazz, and his charismatic personality and crazy energy were magnetic! Robert would always dance with you no matter what level you were, he made you look like a great dancer even if you could only do a few steps.
His musicality and knowledge of dance and music are outstanding, and he is by far one of the best dancers and teachers in the UK and Europe. If you’ve never danced before or just want to brush up on your dance skills, you couldn’t do better.

Martin Nelson

It’s rare to find teachers as talented and committed as Strictly On2. From the start of our first class, they demonstrated a deep understanding of the authentic salsa dance. Their positive attitude, strong work ethic, and ability to meet different students’ needs made our learning process seamless and enjoyable. We really look forward to the opportunity to return to one of their classes.

What is on 2 dancing in Salsa

Dancing on 2 (also known as “Salsa on 2” or “Dancing on Clave”) is a technique that adds rhythm and complexity to your dancing. In this style, you step forward on beat 2, which creates a syncopated feel that’s characteristic of Afro-Caribbean music and dance.

Salsa on 2 is often considered more challenging than dancing on 1, as it requires a deeper understanding of the music’s structure and timing. However, once mastered, it can make your dancing more dynamic and connected to the music. It’s an essential skill for any serious salsa dancer who wants to stand out on the dance floor.

In Puerto Rico and New York, where salsa dancing has deep roots, you’ll find many dancers and schools that specialize in teaching this technique. Learning to dance on 2 can be a fun and rewarding experience that takes your salsa dancing to a whole new level.

Dancing on 2 and dancing on 8

Dancing on 2 and dancing on 8 are closely related concepts in salsa dancing, but there’s a subtle difference between them:

**Dancing on 2:**

– This refers to stepping forward on beat 2 of the music’s 8-count structure, also known as the “clave.”

– The dancer’s footwork aligns with the “2-3-4” pattern of the clave rhythm.

– Dancing on 2 emphasizes the syncopated, offbeat feel that’s characteristic of salsa music.

**Dancing on 8:**

– This refers to stepping forward on beat 8 of the music’s 8-count structure, which is the last beat before the count resets.

– The dancer’s footwork aligns with the “8-1” pattern of the music.

– Dancing on 8 creates a smoother, more flowing feel in your dancing, as it bridges the gap between the end of one musical phrase and the beginning of the next.

In summary, dancing on 2 emphasizes the syncopation of salsa music, while dancing on 8 creates a smoother transition between musical phrases.
